Tips from Our Tree Company

tree trimming
It's spring and the trees are growing full of leaves again! This is one of the times of year that many homeowners give their properties a thorough once-over and perform any routine maintenance. This year, make sure to include tree care on your to-do list. Hill's Tree Service offers the following tips for giving the trees in your yard the proper attention to help set them up for a healthy and beautiful spring!

Inspect

The first step is to inspect your tree for overall health, looking for things like any diseased bark, dead wood, lesions on leaves, frostbite, etc. If you come across damaged branches, prune them away. Depending on the severity and extent of the tree trimming to be done, you may want to call in a professional tree service company. Hill's Tree Service is proud to serve homeowners throughout the Durham, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, Timberlake, Mebane, Roxboro, and Wake Forest, NC areas.

Water

For your trees to successfully grow, they need sufficient water. You ideally want the watering to take place deep underground to encourage roots to grow there rather than on the surface. Check for moist but not wet soil about 4 to 6 inches under the ground. If you have an irrigation system, be sure to review that everything is functioning properly with it as well.

Mulch

Mulch should be used around the base of trees to help conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Remove weeds, ivy, and other competing plant life before mulching. Spring is the perfect time of year to do this because the dirt is still soft. Leave a few inches of space around the trunk, then spread out a diameter of 1 to 2 feet of 3 to 5 inch-thick mulch on the earth around each tree. You do not want to heap the mulch around the trunk like an ant hill.

After a tree removal a property owner is left with the pesky tree stump. Tree stumps are not only displeasing to look at while they decay but they also provide problems when mowing the grass or even worse: critter infestations. Insects such as carpenter ants, beetles and termites love decaying tree stumps. Certain types of fungi also thrive on rotting wood which can be harmful to the surrounding plants or humans. Stump grinding is an effective solution for property owners who want to enhance the appearance and function of their landscape. After a stump has been ground up, the leftover wood chips make a nice mulch that can be used elsewhere in your garden.

Professional tree services make stump removal quick and easy! By hiring a tree company, you can request tree removal and stump grinding services for an affordable price throughout Durham, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, Timberlake, Wake Forest, Roxboro, and Mebane, NC. The process of grinding down a stump involves leaving the stump's roots intact and grinding the stump down to the desired level, either to ground level or even deeper. The entire process can take between 15 minutes and upward of two hours, depending on the size of the stump.

There are many benefits of growing trees on your property, however when they are not properly maintained, numerous problems can occur. The most important reason everyone can appreciate a well-trimmed tree is an accident free environment. Loose branches can cause major damage especially when the wind picks up. These accidents are dangerous and can cost property owners thousands. Don't let your home, car, or nearby electrical wires fall victim to tree accidents that are easily preventable with a simple trim.

Decaying tree limbs are not only unpleasing to look at, but also create homes for unwanted pests and critters. They will spread to other parts of your property and cause damage to different types of wood, other plants, and may pose health risks to the residents. Tree trimming is a proactive way to tackle these problems.

Lastly, tree trimming is good for the overall longevity of a tree’s health. Cutting back at certain times of the year can result in beautiful bursts of new growth in the future. It can also strengthen the roots especially if your tree has been recently planted. Hill’s Tree Service can trim your trees at the right time so you can enjoy all the benefits.

When was the last time you had a professional landscaper come to your home to give your yard a much-needed makeover? If it’s been a few seasons or you’re in need of some assistance, it may be time to reach out to a professional. Not only can a landscaping team add curb appeal to your home, but they can also increase the property value of your home. Check out the following section to learn more about how a landscaping company can make your home more visually appealing and more valuable!

A Well-Kept Design

When someone is interested in purchasing a home, one of the most important things that they look for is a lawn or garden that has a distinct and well-thought-out design. Whether it be bushes, trees, plants, or other natural features, a prospective home buyer is looking to see that there has been care put into the landscaping of the home and that an investment has been made.

A Mature Garden

If your landscaping contains a large amount of fully grown, mature plants, it shows that it has been properly taken care of for years and that the plants are healthy and strong. For many, if they see that someone takes care of their landscaping, they will know they care about their entire property.

The Right Look

Even if you invest in your garden and have many lush plants, it is still important to have the right look that will stand out from the rest of the homes on the block. Whether it be colorful flowers, regular tree trimming, or proper hedge edging, it is important to have a clean look that will stand apart from the rest.
