How to Best Care for Your Trees in Springtime
Tips from Our Tree Company

It's spring and the trees are growing full of leaves again! This is one of the times of year that many homeowners give their properties a thorough once-over and perform any routine maintenance. This year, make sure to include tree care on your to-do list. Hill's Tree Service offers the following tips for giving the trees in your yard the proper attention to help set them up for a healthy and beautiful spring!
Inspect
The first step is to inspect your tree for overall health, looking for things like any diseased bark, dead wood, lesions on leaves, frostbite, etc. If you come across damaged branches, prune them away. Depending on the severity and extent of the tree trimming
to be done, you may want to call in a professional tree service
company. Hill's Tree Service is proud to serve homeowners throughout the Durham, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, Timberlake, Mebane, Roxboro, and Wake Forest, NC areas.
Water
For your trees to successfully grow, they need sufficient water. You ideally want the watering to take place deep underground to encourage roots to grow there rather than on the surface. Check for moist but not wet soil about 4 to 6 inches under the ground. If you have an irrigation system, be sure to review that everything is functioning properly with it as well.
Mulch
Mulch should be used around the base of trees to help conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Remove weeds, ivy, and other competing plant life before mulching. Spring is the perfect time of year to do this because the dirt is still soft. Leave a few inches of space around the trunk, then spread out a diameter of 1 to 2 feet of 3 to 5 inch-thick mulch on the earth around each tree. You do not want to heap the mulch around the trunk like an ant hill.
